Vodafone launches Voice SMS Service

Vodafone Essar, one of the India’s leading mobile service providers, commenced Voice SMS service for its subscribers in 16 circles across the country. The Voice SMS service of Vodafone is powered by Kirusa, who is the world’s leading vendor of Voice SMS Services and a leading developer of mobile value-added services.
As per the press release on the Kirusa website,
‘Fun and easy to use, this new service enables Vodafone subscribers to send Voice SMS messages to each other in their own voice, rather than by typing. Voice SMS is an enhanced mode of communication enriched with the sender’s voice, language and emotions, and offers complete flexibility in retrievals.’
With this service, any Vodafone subscriber, either prepaid or postpaid, can send a Voice SMS message to a mobile subscriber, anywhere in India, for a fixed price of Rs.0.75 (75 paise) per minute. The Vodafone subscriber has the options of sending, listening, replying, forwarding and saving the Voice SMS messages.
To send a Voice SMS
- Dial * followed by the mobile number of the person to whom the message is to be sent.
- After hearing the tone (Beep Sound), speak for 30 seconds and hang up the call to send your message.
To listen to a Voice SMS
- If the recipient is a Vodafone subscriber, s/he’ll receive a text SMS notification and can dial *0* to listen to the Voice SMS. Old voice messages can be retrieved by dialing *1* .
- If the recipient is not a Vodafone subscriber, s/he’ll receive a text SMS notification with an embedded DirectListen™ number which, when dialed, takes them to the message directly.
To reply to a Voice SMS
- Press 1 to reply to the Voice SMS message.
- You will be directed to record your reply.
- After recording, disconnect the call to send your message.
To forward a Voice SMS
- Press 4 to forward the Voice SMS message.
- Enter the mobile number of the recipient.
- To check and confirm your message, press 1.
- To cancel the forwarding, press *.
To save a Voice SMS
- After listening to a Voice SMS message, press 5.
- Your message will be saved instantly and you’ll be notified for the same as well.
- Up to 5 Voice SMS messages can be saved with this facility.
Listening to a Voice SMS for the first time (Once after receiving) is free of charge. But repeated retrieval of a Voice SMS will be charged at Rs. 0.75 (75 paise) per minute. Moreover, replying and forwarding a Voice SMS will also be charged same.
Some important information about the Voice SMS:
- The capacity of a Voice SMS inbox is limited to 20 messages.
- For that reason, after receiving the 21st message, the oldest message will be deleted to allot a place to a new message.
- At a particular point of time, a maximum of 5 messages can be saved.
